PAINTEARTH COUNTY JOINS RMA, OTHER RURAL MUNICIPALITIES CONCERNED OVER PROPOSED ASSESSMENT CHANGES

PAINTEARTH COUNTY – Paintearth County joins the Rural Municipalities Association (RMA) and other rural municipalities across Alberta in expressing its concerns about proposed assessment changes that will reduce County revenues currently provided through property taxes of oil and gas companies.

“The situation is dire,” Reeve Stan Schulmeister said, speaking about the potential for lost tax revenue created by these proposed changes. “In order to accommodate the proposed changes, service levels our ratepayers have become accustomed to will have to decrease, along with the footprint of County operations.”

The Province of Alberta notified rural municipalities late last week that it is considering four potential options to change the assessment and taxation model.
